From 9/17–20, saxophone great and NEA Jazz Master Branford Marsalis and his superlative quartet are joined by fellow NEA Jazz Master and jazz's greatest vocalist, Dianne Reeves, for a week devoted to the immortal 1963 Impulse! Records album John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman. Branford's working band, featuring pianist Joey Calderazzo, bassist Eric Revis, and drummer Justin Faulkner, captures the timeless spirit of the classic Coltrane quartet, while Reeves interprets the songs with her own singular gifts and innate feel for swing.
The SFJAZZ engagement also serves as an extended album release celebration for Marsalis and Reeves's new joint Blue Note album, Dedicated to You, which reimagines the six tracks from John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman in addition to other Coltrane classics in honor of his centennial, featuring Marsalis's quartet.
